Marion County Master Gardeners
The Master Gardener Program is an educational and service program. The program begins with an initial 30 hours of training on a variety of topics. Once you have completed the initial training there are many opportunities to participate in activities that will expand on the these classes. One of the benefits that many people enjoy with the program is the social aspect. It is a great opportunity to meet many new friends who share a common interest in gardening. There are currently about 50 members of the Marion County Master Gardener Association that are active in Association meetings and service projects. Monthly meetings have averaged over 30 members in attendance during the last few years.
The training classes for 2014 will be held on Wednesday evenings at the Pleasant Valley Municipal Building starting February 26th. Classes start at 6:00 p.m. and will end at approximately 9:00 p.m. Instructors for the classes include faculty from the WVU Extension Service, WV Department of Agriculture and other Master Gardeners. The cost of the training is $90 and includes all class materials, refreshments, and the WV Master Gardener Manual. The Manual is a 3-ring binder containing over 950 pages of gardening information. For those that the cost of the training is prohibitive, there are a limited number of $45 scholarships available.
The first session will be held on February 26th with an introduction to the program and official registration. Classes will continue every Wednesday evening through May 7th, with exceptions of the third weeks of March and April. These weeks the class will meet during the monthly Master Gardener meetings on Tuesday, March 18th and Tuesday, April 15th at the Kingmont Community Building. Below is a link for the course packet which includes the class outline and directions, Volunteer Application and scholarship form. If you are undecided about the program, please attend the February 26th meeting. Attending the introduction to the program does not commit you to the program. If you decide at that time that it is not a good fit for you, you can enjoy the refreshments and leave knowing that you fully explored the opportunity prior to making your decision.2014 Letter to Class
