Marion County Master Gardeners
The Master Gardener Program is an educational and service program. The program begins with an initial 40 hours of training on a variety of topics. Once you have completed the initial training there are many opportunities to participate in activities that will expand on the these classes. One of the benefits that many people enjoy with the program is the social aspect. It is a great opportunity to meet many new friends who share a common interest in gardening. There are currently about 40 members of the Marion County Master Gardener Association that are active in Association meetings and service projects. Monthly meetings have averaged over 30 members in attendance during the last few years.
The training classes for 2016 will be held on Wednesday evenings at the Mannington Main Street Office. The Marion Street Office is located on the second floor. If you have issues with being able to climb stairs to the class location please contact the Extension Office so that other arrangements can be made. Classes start at 6:00 p.m. and will end at approximately 9:00 p.m. Instructors for the classes include faculty from the WVU Extension Service and WV Department of Agriculture. The first session will be held on February 24th with an introduction to the program and official registration. Classes will continue every Wednesday evening through May 4th, with the exception of weeks four and nine, which will be changed to Tuesday nights those weeks so class members can participate in the Marion County Master Gardener monthly meetings at the Winfield Community Building. The cost of the training is $90 and includes all class materials, refreshments, and the WV Master Gardener Manual. The Manual is a 3-ring binder containing over 950 pages of gardening information. For those that the cost of the training is prohibitive, there are a limited number of partial scholarships available.
Below are links for the more detailed letter about the class, Volunteer Application, scholarship form, and schedule. If you are undecided about the program, please attend the February 24th meeting. Attending the introduction to the program does not commit you to the program. If you decide at that time that it is not a good fit for you, you can enjoy the refreshments and leave knowing that you fully explored the opportunity prior to making your decision.MG Course Letter Volunteer Application Scholarship Information 2016 Course Schedule
